For years I have dedicated my life to the progress of Downtown Los Angeles and the dream of a revitalization that would flourish into an equitable landscape the world has never seen. Because of the deep rooted problems keeping our beautiful city from flourishing, we have come to a screeching halt and we need a visionary leader to tackle these problems head on. We need a warrior.

In my last address, written almost 12 weeks ago, I expressed an urgent need for a strong representative that is not only a progressive leader, but one with a known track record of getting things done for working people and small businesses in our community.

“There is no longer a Downtown representative in this race, so all of our participation in the future of our city is our responsibility, the stakes couldn’t be higher. I take this very seriously and will always fight for the good of our neighbors and community and will never let you down.”

I was able to sit down with every viable candidate in this race and there was one candidate in particular that gave me the confidence to make an endorsement. The record shows that over the past decade I have supported Kevin De Leon through many of his hard-fought battles and as anyone who is well versed in Los Angeles politics knows, the landscape requires a steady hand, a cunning wit and a heart of gold. Kevin embodies the underdog spirit progressives only hope to aspire to achieve. Our downtown community is resilient and fragile and its issues are robust. They not only require momentous courage, but demand a soft heart. His approach to homelessness is thoughtful, actionable and has a chance to make real lasting change. His battle to ensure a cleaner planet is backed not only by words, but by hard legislation.

“I have dedicated my life to fighting for progressive change here in Los Angeles, and I would be honored to earn your vote so that I can continue to make a difference for our families and neighborhoods.” — Kevin De Leon

I do not take endorsements lightly and today, I throw my full support behind Kevin De Leon and endorse him for Los Angeles City Council District 14. I will be voting for him on Tuesday, March 3rd and if you live in CD14, I encourage you to do so as well. Not only for yourselves and your families, but for the future of our great DTLA.

Onward —
